The Crown pauses production after Queen Elizabeth II’s death

Queen Elizabeth II, the world’s oldest reigning monarch, has been dead for nearly 24 hours now. But it took just over three minutes for Twitter to start trending #RIPQUEENELIZABETHII.

Her death came at age 97, making her the UK’s second-longest serving monarch behind King George VI, who ruled for less than six months during World War 2.

In fact, she outlived every previous monarch in history, including her father, King George V, who died in 1936 at age 88, and her grandfather, King Edward VII, who died in 1910 at age 86.

She also outlasted her great aunt, Queen Victoria, who lived to become 91. And she beat out her great uncle, King William IV, who died in 1837 at age 44.

And while there are plenty of royal baby names still being birthed, few of those have ever been named after Queen Elizabeth II.

So, yes, it’s true — she’s the longest reigning monarch in British history. Here are some facts you might not know about the queen:

1. As a child, she wanted to be a nurse.

Queen Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926, at Buckingham Palace in London. She was the only daughter of King George VI and his wife, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

As a young girl, she loved dressing up as a nurse and visiting hospitals with her mother. In fact, when she was just 12 years old, she even tried nursing school.

But she decided that wasn’t what she wanted to do with her life. Instead, she chose to study English literature at Somerville College, Oxford University.

2. Her first marriage lasted just two days.

On November 14, 1947, Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten, Marquess of Milford Haven. The couple had met in 1945, but their relationship didn’t last long. They were wed just two days later.

3. She gave birth to Prince Charles in 1948.

On September 9, 1948, Princess Elizabeth gave birth to Prince Charles, the future king of England. He would go on to rule from 1952 until 2016.

4. She became the queen of Canada in 1953.

After marrying Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, the newlyweds moved to Canada. It was there that they learned that Prince Charles was going to be born.

5. She was crowned queen of Australia in 1954.

After becoming Queen Elizabeth II, she spent time living in Australia. In 1954, she became the first reigning monarch to visit Australia since Queen Victoria visited in 1860.

6. She was the first reigning monarch to give birth while on tour.

The Crown Season 6 to Pause Production Following Queen Elizabeth II’s Death

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth 2, Netflix’s hit show The Crown is likely to shut down production on its upcoming sixth and final season, according to a report from Deadline.

In a statement from Peter Morgan, who created the Netflix drama along with fellow writer Tom Rob Smith, the director called The Crown “a love letter” to the queen and said that he expects the series to pause production for some time following the announcement.

“The Crown is a love note to Her Majesty,” Morgan said in the statement. “And I’ve nothing to say, for now, just a respectful silence.”

Not much is known about the next season of The Crown, which is set to air sometime in 2020, but early reports suggest the season will cover the 90s to the early 2000’s era of royal life.

Actors Imelda Stauntoff, Lesley Manville, Jonathan Pryce, Elizabeth Debicki, Dominic West, and Jonny Lee Millar are expected to return for the new season.

The Crown debuted in 2016 and earned critical acclaim for its portrayal of the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and her family members during the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and into the 1990s.

Since its debut, it has received numerous accolades, including three Golden Globes for Best Actress for ClaireFoy, OliviaColman, and EmmaCorrin.

Queen Elizabeth dies at 96, reigned longer than any other British monarch

Morgan did not say exactly how much longer production would be on hold. A representative for Netflix shared more information about what the break will actually look like. “As a mark of respect,” he told The Times, “filming on ‘The Crown’ was suspended on Friday.” He added, “We’ll continue to honour the queen throughout our programming.”

– As the world mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II, millions of Britons watched Netflix’s drama about the late monarch, “The Crown.”

– The show, which debuted in 2016, follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II from 1952 to 2017.
