“It was released by Chocolate City through Warner Music Group as the second track from the second extended play Clay the First by Nigerian singer and songwriter CKay in 2019.

In 2020, Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” became a commercial success in Nigeria, Middle East, North Africa, and in a number of European club venues after being remixed by Nigerian singer Joeboy and Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene. It was also remixed by a few local artists for localized variations. French rapper Franglish sang the vocals in the French version.

TikTok also gained popularity for the song through the year 2021, when the song charted in Europe, Australia, Latin America, and New Zealand. In India, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland, the song reached number one. As well as reaching number one on the UK Indie Singles Chart, it also topped the UK Singles Chart at number 3. As well as appearing on the Canadian Hot 100, it reached No. 26 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200. According to the Nigeria Turntable Top 50 chart, it peaked at number 30 on 4 October 2021 and reached number 14 on 20 October 2021.

However, Germany, Italy, Austria and Denmark became hit countries with the North African remix featuring ElGrand Toto despite the main remix by CKay featuring Joeboy and Kuami Eugene being released in most countries.  CKay/Joeboy/Kuami Eugene’s main single topped the French singles chart, although De La Ghetto’s version appeared briefly in France.

Music videos

It became the first Afrobeats music video to surpass 300 million views on YouTube with its music video for “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” released on 14 February 2020. ElGrand Toto appeared in a video for the North African remix released on November 4, 2021. After a month on YouTube, the video surpassed 34 million views after being shot in Lagos and directed by TG Omori.

On YouTube, the acoustic version’s performance video has been viewed 200 million times since 2020.
